Card Contest Winners 2021 - RubberHedgehog Rubber Stamps

Card Contest Winners 2021

Grand Prize Winner

Artist: Sherry Morley
Title: Don't Text And Fly!

Stamps used: Crashed Witch, Witch Texting

We admit it. We were utterly charmed by Ms. Morley's Texting Witch card. The witch on the broom whirls and twirls erratically around the center image as Ms. Witch indulges her passion for texting. Ms. Morley’s use of a slide on over circle mechanism is flawlessly executed and marries perfectly with the theme of her card.  We loved her color palette, and her use of subtle details made her central character seem to glow in the moonlight.

Artist's instruction:

Sherry used a slide on over circle die from Lawn Fawn, distressed oxide inks, copic markers, glitter gel pens, Die-Namics label die for text, and nail head metal stickers.

 3 First Place Winners:
(in no particular order)

Artist: Gina McCreary
Title: I Wasn't Finished With Summer!

Stamps used: Bunny In Pool, Summer Saying

Card Artist Gina McCreary's eye for composition made her adorable card a winner for us.  The beautiful fall leaves on her tree caught our eye immediately and drew our attention first to the outraged bunny, then to the text box on the lower right.  We appreciated the little touches, like the graduated colors on the strewn about foliage and the gentle shading.  It is a beautiful card.

Artist: Cathy Dahl
Title: Critter Bar

Stamps used: Frog at Bar, Deer at Bar

Ms. Cathy Dahl enthralls us year after year with humorous cards that we tend to remember and talk about for years to come.  This card was no exception.  The bar is a real branch of wood. The mini posters are a really lovely touch and we were especially impressed by the tiny details like the sign showing the way to the restrooms and the glossy finish and wooden frame around the dogs playing poker painting on the wall. It’s a lovely dimensional work of art and we are so grateful to Ms. Dahl for sharing it.  The photo here does not do it justice.

Artist's instruction:

Cathy used kraft cardstock to create this card. For the wood slats, she used scrapbook paper & hand drew/colored the slats. She also scaled & printed the signs on the wall, and used liquid glass over the center sign. Cathy also found a real wooden stick and removed the bark. For adhesion, Cathy used glue dots & liquid glass. For the picture frame in the center, she used toothpicks. Last but not least, she used foam pop-ups for the stamped images.

Artist: Nicole Fischer
Title: Krampus

Stamps used: Krampus, Krampus Saying

We absolutely loved the vintage look of Ms. Fischer’s Krampus card. From the torn effects on the parallel horizontal bars to the very subtle touch of shimmer around Krampus (which I know is hard to see in our photo), Ms. Fischer brought an old timey feel to her creation that suited the subject matter perfectly. Even her choice to leave Krampus in black and white added to the shadowy feeling of doom appropriate to the subject matter. The end result felt just right.

Artist's instruction:

Nicole used graphic 45 paper for this card. She ripped the graphic paper and glued it down. She used a gold glitter brush to add the gold shimmer highlights. Nicole used a ranger archival ink pad to stamp Krampus on an off-white paper. She used the same ink to stamp the Krampus saying over the gold. After fussy cutting the Krampus, she used her glue runner and adhered him to the paper. She used red fire inspired paper to give this card a creepy vibe.

 2021 Honorable Mentions

Several cards were selected to appear in our honorable mentions gallery located here. You can also view all of this year's entries by clicking here.

2021 has been another challenging year and we truly appreciate the time and effort all of our entrants put into wowing us with their art.  And, while this contest is always very tough to judge, we enjoy the experience very much.  Thank you to everyone who entered!  We hope you will all return next year.

As always, our choice was very difficult. There were many creative, clever, and polished entries and only four prizes available for this round.

We also chose 4 entries for honorable mention - though we would have liked to have chosen many more for recognition.

All card entries have been resized to fit this page; a few have also been cropped or digitally enhanced in other ways - to better suit this page and our purposes. Our judges made their choice based on the original entries as submitted; many factors were considered.

All decisions are final. Prize packages (store credits) will be sent to Grand Prize and First Prize winners by email. Honorable mention card crafters will receive a small gift in the mail from our crew for their amazing contributions to this year's contest. If you are a winner and have not been contacted by November 5th, 2021, please email us using our contact form.
